Best Diet Secret I Learned [Video]
Okay, there were actually many I learned in the span of an hour. Diet secrets that is.
The other day, I got together with Whitney Fretham, health coach with shelivesfit.com. I had wanted to hear more about her health coaching services, since body image in general and weight in particular are topics that come up fairly frequently in therapy. Who knew the amount of info I would take away from one conversation?!
But don’t take it from me, hear it for yourself! Pour yourself some tea and join us for this interesting conversation about health, happiness, and weight loss.
In this first of four videos, Whitney explains some of the differences between diets and a healthy lifestyle (there’s more to it than you might think!).
So the biggest “diet secret” I take away from this is how very night-and-day different diets and healthy eating, or a healthy lifestyle, are. Here’s the quick summary:
|» short-term focused||» long-term focused|
|» have a beginning and an end||» no end; it’s about creating a new, sustainable way to approach food for life|
|» focus on what you can’t eat or do||» focuses on what you can eat and do|
|» deprivation-oriented||» focuses on adding good to your life|
|» often result in re-gaining the weight lost||» optimizes possibility of keeping off weight lost|
At this point, you might be thinking, “Healthy lifestyle, like it. Sounds good. But I really want to lose weight. Will I be able to shed pounds with the healthy eating method?” Listen to Fit Whit’s answer.
Did you catch that? She said that once the body is getting healthier from the inside out, weight loss will naturally happen if it needs to. Wow. Not your average weight loss message. Listen to more of what Fit Whit has to say about making natural changes that make a positive difference.
Learn why, after losing weight quickly in a designated time frame, people often regain it. Learn why losing weight slowly, with healthy lifestyle changes, can help keep it off.
This is the second time I’ve heard Whitney talk about a healthy lifestyle change, and once again I was struck by both the insightfulness and simplicity of what she said. It’s one of those things that as I listen to her talk, I’m thinking, “Of course; yes, that’s exactly right,” but wouldn’t have ever come up with on my own.
THANK YOU so much, Whitney, for sharing your insights with us! You can learn more about health coaching, body image, and Whitney’s own story at her website (with free educational videos!) www.shelivesfit.com.
